In a previous article, we mentioned that summer is for playing. Well, guess what? So is winter! Are you looking forward to having fun with your family this winter in the Laurentians? Perfect timing, because we want you to have fun together too.

Here are a few family activities to do in the Laurentians this winter. Pull your toque on tight. We’re off!

A lovely little sleigh ride

Would you enjoy horseback riding in some fresh powdery snow this winter? Book a tour at Les Écuries du Chantecler, the magnificent riding school located only 15 minutes from Village Suisse and gallop away with your family!

Alternatively, treat yourself to a winter sleigh ride on the beautiful snowy trails of Les Écuries. This rather enjoyable ride takes place in the mountains and can even include a climb up to the fire, a brief stopover where you can warm up on the trail around a nice campfire in the middle of nature. Marshmallows, hot sangria and scrumptious hot chocolate will be served. Mmm!

A multi-activity centre unlike any other

If you are more fond of dogs than horses, head to Martin le pêcheur, a Laurentian multi-activity centre unlike any other. We wrote about it in a previous article and want to revisit it because we are convinced that you are going to have a blast.

Martin le pêcheur primarily offers 3 activities: ice fishing, dog sledding and snowmobile rentals. Make sure to call ahead of time because the centre may close during the transition from fall to winter and from winter to spring, just before the summer fishing season. Family fun guaranteed!

Conquering the Laurentians with the kids

How could we discuss winter and the Laurentians without mentioning downhill skiing? The Laurentians are literally the mini Alps of Quebec.

If you like downhill skiing, “up North”, as it is referred to, offers you no less than 12 ski hills. Our favourites? The winning trio from the Laurentians (and our beloved partners): the Vallée Bleue, Belle Neige and Mont-Blanc resorts.

Mont-Blanc is a little further away from our cottage estate, but Vallée Bleue and Belle Neige are in Val-David, right next door (less than 10 minutes by car).

Whether you’re a novice or an expert, these three mountains are fantastic. Now it’s up to you to conquer them with the kids!

A winning trio that skates hard and a breathtaking sports park!

We conclude our little review of winter activities with a stop in Val-David, this little jewel of the North and birthplace of Village Suisse.

In mid-December, the skating rink in Parc Léonidas-Dufresne is open from Monday to Sunday on a variable schedule, with or without supervision. Every Friday, this popular venue offers a winning trio: skating, hot chocolate and a DJ. Yes!!! A truly wonderful activity to do as a family during the cold season.

However, since the winter is quite mild at the moment, and beautiful ice is hard to come by, let’s head over to the Parc Régional de Val-David‑Val-Morin.

The regional park and its surroundings are perfect for a host of winter activities. Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, fat biking, sliding, hiking, etc. If you’re a winter sports enthusiast, you’ll have a blast at the Parc Régional de Val-David‑Val-Morin, which is a major tourist attraction in the area.

Enjoy quality time with your family in the Laurentians

Ah! The Laurentians… It’s impossible to overlook them when it comes to winter family activities. We hope that our suggestions have made you want to visit!

And don’t forget, if you want to organize a short stay of 2 days or more in the region, think about booking your cottage at Village Suisse. We are always happy to welcome you.
